We have had many people ask us why NASA has not taken pictures of Elenin with the hubble telescope. After all Hubble would take great pictures of the comet.

Well the answer is simple. The Hubble is not sitting around in orbit waiting for something to do. There is a queue a mile long from members of the scientific community who want to use Hubble and have to submit a scientific proposal which is then reviewed and approved before time is booked for using the Hubble telescope.

As we mentioned in our last post, there is very little interest in comet Elenin by the scientific community. There are that many comets around that once you have seen one the rest of them pretty much look like each other.
There are some pretty important studies going on with the hubble and looking at a comet is pretty much way down the list of priorities.
Current Hubble missions for 5th July are :

-Study of Kuiper Belt Binaries to probe Early Solar System Evolution
- Study Dark Energy Associated with Supernovae and Clusters
- Study Dwarf Galaxies to Better Understand Galaxy Formation and Evolution
- Perform Survey of a Complete Sample of Luminous Infrared Galaxies in the Local Universe
- Study Stalled Preplanetary Nebulae

The list above is performed by the Hubble today..... tomorrow other scientific proposals that have been approved will be using the Hubble.
NASA has already booked 2 weeks of valuable time with the SOHO spacecraft-B to turn it around and take pictures of comet elenin which everyone with Internet access will be able to see.

The size and brightness of comet elenin is becoming a disappointment to more astronomers who are now beginning to lose interest in the comet.

Sydneystargazers also predicted this a month or so ago that Elenin may end up a fizzer like the last visit of Halley's comet.

We will still document it here but don't expect too much fuss about Elenin in the scientific community.

Comet Elenin is currently south of the ecliptic plane but will move north of the ecliptic plane on the 14th of September at a distance of 0.6 AU from Earth or 89,758,800 km ( 233 times further away than our Moon).

When comet Elenin passes Earth at it's closest distance on October 16 it will be 0.03 AU or 4.5 million km north of the ecliptic plane.

According to the latest orbital data on Elenin updated 3 days ago, when comet Elenin passes Earth not only will it be well above the Earth's orbit but it will also be 0.233 AU (34.8 million km away from Earth or 90 times further away than our Moon.

And since the comet will be north of the ecliptic plane, so will it's tail. This most likely means we will not even see any meteor showers when Elenin passes.

For those who don't know, the ecliptic plane is the plane of the Earth's orbit around the Sun.

So to summarize.....

When it passes Earth October 16, comet Elenin will be well north of the ecliptic plane and 34.8 million km away.

Not exactly close since the minimum distance Venus gets to Earth every 1.5 years is 38 million km.

Data on Elenin suggests that the comet is only about 3 or 4km in size which makes it rather a small sized comet. Hopefully it will be still visible in the sky later this year but it certainly is not going to live up to the expectations of it currently circulating around the Internet.

We will try and take another picture of comet elenin today. If weather or conditions do not allow the picture opportunity today, we will try again in the next few days.
We note that there are still conspiracy videos being added to the Internet almost daily about Elenin and one person still keeps on referring to Elenin as "the ELE dwarf star". When will Terral03 learn that Elenin is just a comet.
Sydneystargazers would just like to remind people that these people who are littering the Internet with rubbish about Elenin have not provided any evidence to back up their claims........ so their stories should be completely dismissed.


We are now seeing some people claiming that the Sun is now showing less sunspots because elenin is coming. All we can wonder is where are people coming up with this rubbish and what is their motive for spreading this misinformation about comet elenin.


We are mentioning this because on a daily basis we are still getting a large amount of emails from people concerned about what they are hearing about elenin.


Our message is simple...... do not believe the wild stories you are hearing. Just because a video is uploaded to YouTube does not make it fact.


Elenin is just another comet and if you have not seen a comet before in the sky then this will hopefully be a great opportunity for you to see one later this year.

Why Alignments Do Not Cause Earthquakes

There has been much wild speculation on the Internet that a 4 to 12km diameter snowball called Elenin will cause major earthquakes as it comes closer. We have even heard that this comet is supposed to have been causing earthquakes for the last 4 years.

All because some groups out there want you to believe that somehow when there is an alignment going on between Elenin and other planets and the Sun that this somehow causes quakes here on Earth....

Well we have completely ruled that out and we will explain why below.

Not helping matters is that those groups saying Elenin is causing earthquakes are quoting one professor who has written a paper wherehe comes up with a theory that a small comet far away from Earth is causing earthquakes. Has his paper being accepted by the international scientific community? No. And we don't believe it either.

While Professor Omerbashich's paper account for Elenin and our planets, his paper does not look at any of the asteroids which are much larger than the 4 to 12 km wide comet Elenin. Vesta is 529 km wide but ignored by the professor.

We also have Ceres, Pallas and Juno that are ignored as well . If Elenin is causing quakes, then surely Vesta is as well....but his paper does not mention that.

Comet 103P/Hartley from 2010 had a coma of 150,000km (Elenin is currently 30,000km) and 103P/Hartley came within 19.4 million km from Earth which meant it was 54 times further away than our moon.

Elenin is going to be 96 million times further away so you can see 103P/Hartley was much closer to us. But Professor Omerbashich never linked 103p/Hartley to Earthquakes. Why not? Did we see major earthquakes rock our planet when 103P/Hartley went by? No we didn't so surely the same goes for Elenin.

If the theory that alignment with planets or comets did cause earthquakes was true, then we would have to assume the same goes with the alignment of the Moon as the Moon does have an effect on our tides due to close orbit. Now a new moon or a full moon is where we have an alignment between the Sun, Earth and the Moon.

Last year there were 156 earthquakes above magnitude 6 and there was either a full Moon or a New Moon for only 10 of those quakes. This surely rules out lunar alignment as being a cause of quakes. If our own Moon can not explain earthquakes when it is aligned, then how can a small frozen snowball or a distant planet have an effect?

In a nutshell, Professor Omerbashich claims that comet Elenin has been causing earthquakes on Earth since around 2007..... even though it was so much further away then that it is now. At the same time he ignores other much larger and much closer comets which are not mentioned by him as causing earthquakes. It is just one comet called elenin.

That makes no sense at all. And he is saying Elenin is a comet...not claiming it to be a brown dwarf.

To try and prove their point, conspiracy sites keep on quoting Professor Omerbashich's paper in their claims that Elenbin will cause major earthquakes.

And why do we say Dr. Omerbashich's is wrong.........

when we looked at his website he made a claim that according to his paper we would see between 9-19th of May a time of intensified 6+ quakes here on Earth.

Well we waited and held our breathe and nothing happened. In that time period we only had one earthquake above magnitude 6 ....... a magnitude 6.8 LOYALTY ISLANDS May 10, 2011

Hardly intensified 6+ quakes.

It is impossible for Elenin to cause widespread destruction on this planet... and people should ignore those that tell you otherwise. Certain groups are so caught up with the Elenin conspiracy they are making up stuff on the go. One article even suggested Elenin would collide with us last March. We wonder how many people were scared when they saw that.

We will say it again......... comet Elenin is just a comet. It will pass us at a distance where we may see it in the night sky...... but that is it.

Is this really Elenin? Is it really a comet? Is it a spacecraft, piloted by extraterrestrials? Or is a precursory event to our convergence with the dwarf star?

these sites and people we have found are all coming from the same place ...

let me make it perfectly clear that Comet Elenin is a small comet that will likely not be even seen by most people since it is so small and far away ...
