Another Liftoff + Coronal Mass Ejection
Yet another Coronal Mass Ejection is seen in the latest images. This image captured by STEREO Ahead COR2 shows that there is potential for an Earth bound plasma cloud. More images will be needed to determine if this is so, or if it will again be directed to the east. This latest eruption was the result of a filament lifting off in the northern hemisphere.

New Sunspot 1416 continues to expand in the southern hemisphere. This region now has a Beta-Gamma magnetic configuration and may soon be capable of producing an M-Class flare.

Solar Update / Prominence Liftoff
Solar activity has been fairly low with only minor C-Class flares being detected. new Sunspot 1416 is growing fast and may soon produce stronger flares. Sunspot 1415 rotated onto the western limb and out of direct Earth view. Returning regions, including active Sunspot 1402 from the previous rotation, will begin to rotate back into view over the weekend.
A large prominence lifted off of the northeast limb on Thursday, however it was directed to the east and not towards Earth. Video is below.

NORTHEASTERN ERUPTION: Solar activity is picking up. During the late hours of Feb. 9th, a dark magnetic filament winding over the sun's northeastern limb rose up and exploded. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded the action:

The eruption hurled a bright coronal mass ejection (CME) away from the sun: SOHO movie. The expanding cloud is not heading for Earth, but in a day or so it might make contact with Venus, which appears to be in the line of fire. ​

The emergence of a new sunspot at the root of the erupting filament plus the rapid growth of existing sunspot AR1416 could foreshadow more activity in the days ahead. Solar flare alerts: text, voice.

OLD SUNSPOT RETURNS: Sunspot AR1402, which unleashed an X2-class solar flare on Jan. 27th, has returned after a two-week transit around the far side of the sun. Two weeks of decay have greatly reduced the old active region:​

The sunspot group, re-numbered AR1419 for its second apparition, is crackling with B- and C-class solar flares. These flares are minor compared to the eruptions of January. The return of AR1402 is mainly significant for nostalgic reasons .
